Type Sizes in Pixels and points

This page is included for reference purposes only.

Graphics industry people think in terms of points, but points are alien to computer monitors, which measure size in pixels. There are pixels between points because 4 pixels correspond to 3 points. Thus any point specification will be rounded (Opera truncates) to the nearest pixel. The default size is 16 pixels or 12 points. (FireFox under Mac OS X seems to have found a way to squeeze points between pixels—though it might involve the monitor granularity instead.)

These size specifications are not resizable in some browsers (MSIE) and thus are a problem for people with vision problems who wish to resize the type in the browser. It is preferable to use resizable type as demonstrated on other pages in this set
